Indepen has published the results of a survey of investors’ views about the UK electricity distribution sector. The report sets out views on the initial proposals, by Ofgem, the economic regulator, of the prices that the 14 electricity distribution network operators (DNOs) can charge from 2010 to 2015. The results of the survey will inform the discussions between the regulator and the companies that will take place before Ofgem’s final proposals in November.
The project was led by Matthew Parr and sponsored by the 14 DNOs.

Matthew Parr presented at the British Energy Association’s (BEA) workshop on ‘The effect of the credit crunch on UK energy investment’. He explored the challenge facing the UK energy sector of rising investment levels to meet environmental goals given current economic and funding conditions. He compared recent events in the water and electricity sectors to highlight the impact that government and regulatory policy can have on a sector’s ability to attract capital.

The report sets out views on the draft determinations, by Ofwat the economic regulator, of the prices that the water companies can charge their customers from 2010 to 2015. The results of the survey will inform the discussions between the regulator and the companies that will take place before Ofwat’s final price determination in November.

Matthew Parr presented the results of surveys of investors’ views of the water and electricity distribution sectors at a ‘Financing Utilities’ seminar at the London Stock Exchange. The presentation compared the approaches that Ofwat and Ofgem have taken to set draft price limits in volatile economic conditions. Indepen published the final report of the survey of investors’ views about the water sector on 28 September and will publish the final report for electricity distribution in mid October.

Indepen's survey of water sector investors in England and Wales has been published. The project, led by Matthew Parr and sponsored by Water UK, ascertained the views of the investment community in order that they could inform the sector at an important stage in the 2009 Price Review process. The report follows on from a presentation of the interim results at Water UK's City Conference (February 2009).

Matt Parr presented the results of the 2009 investor survey at Water UK's City Conference. The conference was attended by over 170 investors, regulators, government representatives and water company personnel in order to debate and discuss the future finance of the industry. The presentation captured investors' views on the financial environment, major sectoral risks and the regulatory regime.
